Hi Vis

Our Hi Vis range combines compliance with comfort. Quality construction, durable reflective elements, and designs that handle the demands of professional worksites across Australia.

Professional High-Vis Clothing for Maximum Safety on Site

Maintaining visibility is the most important factor in preventing accidents on high-traffic job sites or rural properties. With quality hi-vis clothing, you are safe from low-light hazards by the use of fluorescent textiles and retro-reflective tapes that catch and bounce back. At Allingtons Outpost, we provide a complete range of high-vis gear designed to meet strict Australian safety standards, helping you remain seen and secure from dawn until dusk.

Hi-Vis Jackets, Jumpers, and Hoodies

For protection against the elements, our collection of hi-vis clothing includes heavy-duty outerwear designed for total visibility. We stock waterproof parkas, softshell jackets, and bonded membrane hoodies from trusted brands like Rainbird, FXD, and Portwest. These garments are engineered with high-contrast orange or yellow fabrics and strategic reflective taping.

Whether you need a 4-in-1 bomber jacket for extreme winters or a zip-front hi-vis hoodie for daily layering, our inventory provides a robust barrier against the weather while keeping you compliant with workplace safety regulations.

Trade-Ready Hi-Vis Shirts, Polos, and Pants

Our selection of high-visibility workwear extends to daily essentials like shirts and tactical trousers. We offer ventilated tech shirts from Ritemate and FXD that prioritise airflow to manage your core temperature during strenuous activity.

For a more casual trade look, our hi-vis polos and performance tees provide moisture-wicking comfort for the heat of summer. We also carry taped work pants and cargo trousers from CAT and x/dmg, featuring reflective strips around the lower legs to ensure your silhouette is visible even when you are bending or moving in tight spaces.

Specialised Vests, Reflectors, and Kids' Gear

Choosing the right safety layer often involves the versatility of a high-vis vest or specialised reflectors. We provide lightweight safety vests that can be quickly pulled over any outfit, making them a staple for visitors and site managers.

Interestingly, our range also includes hi-vis options for children, allowing young helpers to stay safe and visible around the station. From breathable singlets for the yard to heavy-duty taped shirts for industrial use, we focus on garments that balance the need for extreme visibility with the resilience required for physical labour.

Engineered for Compliance and Comfort

Investing in premium hi-vis clothing means selecting gear that handles the physical demands of your trade without fading or fraying. We prioritise brands that utilise high-grade dyes and durable tapes that maintain their luminosity through countless industrial wash cycles.

Many of our styles feature specialised women’s and men’s tailored fits, providing the mobility needed for a wide range of motion. By combining the heritage of outback-ready textiles with modern safety engineering, our collection provides the resilience needed to face any professional environment with absolute confidence in your visibility.

Frequently asked questions

What is hi vis clothing and when is it required to be worn?

Hi-vis (high-visibility) clothing uses bright fluorescent fabric and, for day/night use, reflective tape to make the wearer easy to see in low light and busy environments. It's required wherever workers need to be clearly visible for safety – on roadworks and construction sites, around moving plant and traffic, in warehousing, rail, mining and many rural and emergency settings. Your workplace or site safety rules dictate exactly when and what level must be worn.

What is the difference between hi vis day-only and day/night (taped) garments?

Day-only hi-vis relies on fluorescent fabric alone, so it's visible in daylight but not in the dark – suitable only for daytime work. Day/night hi-vis adds retro-reflective tape that bounces back vehicle headlights and torches, so the wearer is visible both in daylight and at night. If you work in low light, dawn, dusk or after dark, you need day/night (taped) garments.

Are Allingtons hi vis items compliant with Australian Standard AS/NZS 4602.1?

Our hi-vis garments are designed to meet AS/NZS 4602.1 (the standard for high-visibility safety garments), with day-only and day/night options clearly indicated. Compliance is shown on each product page, so check the listing to confirm a garment meets the class you need – and if you're unsure which class your site requires, our team can help.

What hi vis clothing pieces does Allingtons stock (shirts, vests, jackets, pants)?

We stock hi-vis shirts (long and short sleeve), polos, vests, jackets, jumpers and pants, in day-only and day/night (taped) options, for men and women. Ritemate offers our best and broadest hi-vis range, covering the essentials for most worksites.

How do I choose the right hi vis colour (yellow vs. orange) for my worksite?

First and foremost, follow your site's specific requirements, as many specify a colour. As a general guide, fluoro yellow (yellow-green) is the most common and widely visible in most environments, while fluoro orange is often used in rail, mining and some civil work, and can stand out better against green or yellow backgrounds. If your site doesn't specify, choose the colour that contrasts best with your typical surroundings.

How do I wash hi vis clothing without damaging the reflective tape?

Wash hi-vis inside out in cold or warm water on a gentle cycle, with like colours and a mild detergent – avoid bleach and fabric softener, which degrade the fluorescent fabric and reflective tape. Don't iron directly over the tape, and avoid high-heat drying; line dry or tumble on low. Washing less aggressively and following the garment's care label preserves both the brightness and the reflective performance for longer.

What are the best hi vis clothing brands available at Allingtons?

Ritemate is our leading hi-vis brand, offering the best range of high-visibility workwear at Allingtons – from day-only and day/night shirts and polos to vests and jackets – with reliable compliance and value for everyday work.

Do Hi Vis Green, Blue and Pink meet Australian Safety Standards?

It depends on the colour and the specific garment. The colours that have always been recognised as compliant fluorescent backgrounds under AS/NZS 4602.1 are fluoro yellow, fluoro orange and fluoro red. A 2023 update to the materials standard (AS/NZS 1906.4) added fluorescent green and pink as recognised options – so genuinely fluorescent, certified green and pink garments can be compliant, but only if the finished garment also meets the luminance, contrast and design requirements of the standard and is certified accordingly. Blue is not a compliant hi-vis background colour. Importantly, "fashion" hi-vis in ordinary (non-fluorescent) shades is not compliant no matter how bright it looks. The safest approach is never to judge by colour alone – always check the garment's certification label to confirm it meets AS/NZS 4602.1 for the class you need.

Is faded Hi Vis Clothing still effective?

No – once hi-vis clothing has noticeably faded, it's no longer as effective and may no longer meet the standard. The fluorescent fabric loses its brightness with UV exposure, washing, dirt and general wear, and the reflective tape can crack, peel or dull over time, all of which reduce how visible you are. Faded, stained or damaged hi-vis should be replaced. As a rule of thumb, retire a garment when the colour has clearly dulled, it's heavily soiled, or the reflective tape is cracked or lifting – many workplaces have a set replacement policy for exactly this reason.
